Ketu District launches Newsletter

Denu, Oct. 4, GNA – Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, Deputy Volta Regional Minister has noted that the production of Newsletters by District Assemblies would enlighten the people, eliminate doubts and rumour mongering which are setbacks to development. He said information dissemination in the districts through newsletters as proposed by government has become relevant to get the people informed on development issues, poverty reduction, HIV/AIDS and the Health Insurance Scheme to galvanise them for a common focus.

Mr Dzamesi said this on Friday, when he launched the first- ever Ketu District Assembly Newsletter, “Ketu News” at Denu. A total of 1, 142,000 cedis was realised from the sale of the first 35 copies. Mr Dzamesi bought the first copy for 200,000 cedis.

He said government understands the importance of information in good governance and the democratic administration of the country and it is willing to make access to information easier and hence the Right to Information Bill before Parliament. Mr Dzamesi said the bill, when passed would make it easier for the media to get information for transmission to the general public for an environment, devoid of doubt and ignorance. He hoped “Ketu News” would not be a nine-day wonder and asked the assembly to create a budget for its production to sustain it.

Mr Linus Koffie, the District Chief Executive (DCE) said lack of information flow in the district has resulted in rumour mongering, gossiping and name-calling, thereby killing initiative among some workers of the assembly. Mr Koffie praised Togbe Dunenyo Pius, a Dutch Development Chief of the Some Traditional Area for donating 1,000 Euros for the production of the newsletter. Mr Thomas Seshie, Volta Regional Director of the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in a message urged the assembly to use the newsletter as a unifying bridge between the different groups of people in the district.
