Ketu Assembly criticised for ignoring development plan

Penyi, Jan 2, GNA – Mr James Avedzi, MP for Ketu-North, last Saturday criticised the Ketu District Assembly for ignoring laid out development plans for the District.

He noted that many projects the Assembly was carrying out were outside the original development plan, putting on hold the immediate needs of the communities.

Mr Avedzi, addressing the first annual durbar of the Penyi Youth Organization (PEYO), which had just been formed expressed concern about the constant flooding of the Penyi market and said it should have been solved by now.

Mr Justice Cudjoe, Ketu District Chief Executive (DCE), noted that the Penyi, Agbozume and Denu markets, which were situated in the centre of towns lacked room for expansion and had to be relocated. Mr Daniel Zilevu, Assembly Member, urged citizens of the area to desist from writing unsigned letters to high offices, citing letters asking for transfers of some teachers and a threat of mayhem if the Fire Post in the town was not upgraded.

“Your ability to read and write, should be a means of blessing and encouragement for your people but not a set back to their development,” he stated.

Dr Emmanuel Srofenyo, Interim Chairman of PEYO, announced a 10-year development plan to improve agriculture, education, gender and governance and other areas to raise the living standards of the people. He appealed to the chiefs to initiate an annual festival to serve as another platform to promote development in the area.
