Keta District fails to confirm new DCE

Keta, Sept. 22, GNA – Miss Gifty Ama Ayeh, the President’s new nominee for the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Keta, on Tuesday failed to get the nod of members of the Assembly at an extra ordinary meeting called for her nomination at Keta.

She obtain 40 votes in favour and 23 against, just a shade below the required 41 votes of the 64 members of the 69-member Assembly, who were present, to secure the two third majority.

There was one invalid vote.

Miss Ayeh, a teacher and Government representative on the National Media Commission (NMC), replaces Mr Emmanuel Vorkeh, the former DCE, whose resignation was recently announced.

The Assembly has fixed Thursday, September 30, for another round of voting for her confirmation.

Miss Ayeh later told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that “democracy is really gaining root in the country and every person is expressing his will, devoid of control and pressure.” She said due democratic process must be allowed to run, but was hopeful that God willing, she would get the nod next time round, to keep the Assembly’s works on course.
