Keta District Assembly to promote private business.

Keta, July 24, GNA- The Keta District Assembly is to promote entrepreneurship through increased access to technical advise and credit, Mr Kofi Ahiabor, District Chief Executive (DCE) said on Saturday. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the district’s branch of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA) at Keta on Saturday.

Mr Ahiabor said it was hoped that the policy would in the near future make self-employment a preferred choice to public and formal sector employment. The DCE said what was needed for private entrepreneurs to succeed was perseverance and astute business sense. He said the assembly had directed that all small-scale businesses be registered for assessment to enable the assembly to select some of them to be trained under the National Youth Employment Programme’s apprenticeship scheme.

Mr Ahiabor said the cost of training the apprentices who would benefit from the programme would be borne by the government. Mr Ernest Otoo, Volta Regional Industrial Relations Officer of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) under whose umbrella the hairdressers and beauticians unions are being organized said the hairdressers would be given the adequate management skills to grow their businesses.

Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, who was the guest of honour, urged hairdressers and beauticians in the other districts in the region to organize themselves to make standardization easier. Miss Mike Denoo, Keta District President of the GHABA said the association would educate its members to use only registered hair products.
