Kenyasi to have telephone next year

Mr Felix Owusu-Agyapong, Minister of Communication and Technology on Wednesday announced that Kenyasi District in the Brong Ahafo Region would be provided with telephone services next year.

He said this was the outcome from a business plan presented to the Board of Directors of Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited.

The Minister was answering a question from Mr Paul Okoh, NPP-Asutifi North as to when telephone facilities would be provided in the Asutifi District and specially Kenyasi, the district capital.

Mr. Owusu-Agyapong said as the MPs ought to be aware “it is the intention of government to ensure that fixed telephone service is extended to all towns with Senior Secondary Schools and or Training Colleges by 2004”.

He said according to information received from the Ministry of Education Kenyasi has a senior secondary school and was thus qualified to benefit from the facility.

Mr. Owusu-Agyapong explained to a supplementary question that if government was to depend on economic viability of an area as a criterion for providing telephone service to an area or district it would mean that several areas would be left without the facility.
