Aflao, March 16, GNA – Charity Henyo, a 24 year-old Kenkey seller is being questioned by the Aflao Police in connection with the death on Sunday of a 13 year-old boy she allegedly beat severely over a plastic ball.
A source at the Rainbow Area, near the Aflao main market, where the incident occurred told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that last Friday, the deceased and his playmate, Godwin, were playing the plastic ball in the area when a third boy, Kwaku Henyo, a brother of Charity appeared and claimed ownership of the ball.
The source said a quarrel ensued between the deceased and Kwaku Henyo in the process and Charity who was attracted to the scene allegedly held the deceased by the shirt and subjected him to beatings with a piece of firewood until he came out of his shirt and fled. He said the deceased, a class six pupil of the Government Primary school in the Low Cost Housing Area, who reported the case to the mother also complained of headache and bodily pains, following which he was led to the Police station where a report was made.
The source said the deceased got a Police Medical Form and reported to the Sape Agbo Memorial Hospital at Denu where he died while on admission last Sunday.
When contacted, the Aflao police confirmed the story but said Charity, who appeared on the scene attempted separating the two boys but only used a cane on the two when they refused to stop the fight. The Police said Charity had appeared before court and was on remand while further investigations were conducted. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Central Aflao Hospital mortuary awaiting conveyance to the Saint Anthony’s Hospital at Dzodze for post mortem examination.
