Ken Agyepong challenged to disclose source of wealth

Anti-corruption campaigner and former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Asikuma-Odobeng–Brakwa, PC Appiah Ofori, has berated his fellow party member, the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyepong, for behaving like an “insane” person.

The former NPP MP was reacting to Mr Agyepong’s critique of the National Executive Committee’s (NEC) alleged “imposition of unilateral” decision of minority MPs to boycott the ongoing vetting of President Mahama’s ministerial nominees by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

An obviously furious Kennedy Agyepong did not mince words when he descended heavily on the leadership of the party for taking ill-fated decisions that could adversely affect the fortunes of the party in future election.

Mr. Agyepong insists the decision to boycott the event was not “carefully thought through” since the NPP could have used the occasion to provide evidence about allegations of malfeasance leveled against some of the appointees.

But another NPP stalwart sharply disagreed.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Mr Appiah-Ofori said his indulgence of Kennedy Agyepong’s “by-heart” talk had worn out. He described Mr. Agyepong’s style of attacking the leadership of the party as unfortunate and an “insane” way of reproach and cautioned his colleague MP not to rate himself as a rich man since no Ghanaian knows his source of wealth.

“He claims he is rich, I want to challenge him to come out and disclose his source of wealth”.

The former Asikuma-Odobeng–Brakwa MP further stated that Kennedy Agyepong had allowed money to eat into his head and that was making him speak anyhow and alluded to past comments made by the MP on Oman FM which had the potential of creating ethnic tension in the country.

“…some of us are getting weary of constantly featuring on radio programs to apologize on behalf of Kennedy Agyepong anytime he makes inane comments,” P.C Appiah-Ofori added.
