Kebab seller remanded for defiling 12-year-old girl

Azundow Abubakari, a kebab seller, who allegedly defiled a 12-year-old niece of a family friend, at a refuse dump, was on Wednesday remanded by a circuit court in Accra.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear in court on Tuesday, May 15.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac A.A. Ahor said, the complainant, a mechanic, lived with the victim at Okponglo in Accra, while the accused, stayed at East Legon, and operated his kebab business in front of the complainant’s drinking spot at Okponglo.

The prosecution said that on January 26, 2012 at about 1000 hours, the accused took advantage of his relationship with the victim’s family and lured her into a nearby refuse dump and defiled her, after which he warned the victim not to mention the act to anyone.

Chief Inspector Ahor said, Abubakari repeated the act on January 30, 2012, however, luck eluded him and he was caught in the act by a witness in the case.

The prosecution said the accused took to his heels on seeing the witness, and the victim was sent home and the matter was reported to her parents.

Chief Insp. Ahor said, the police issued a medical form to the victim for treatment at the hospital.

He said the accused admitted the offence in his caution statement.**
