KATH to be fumigated over bed bugs invasion

Officials at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are reviewing sanitation measures at the facility following reports of a bed bug invasion of some wards.

They are to intensify the fumigation of sections of the hospital where the bed bugs have invaded. Some wards including the obstetrics and Gynecology departments are the worst affected. A nursing mother who was admitted there told Starr News that the babies are developing skin rashes and other infections due to the invasion of the bugs.

According to her, only those who go through caesarian operation are given a better place to sleep while those who go through the normal delivery are housed in wards where the bugs have taken over.

Public Relation Officer of the Hospital, Kwame Frimpong said the situation is currently under control.

“It is under control, but it is only an extension of the extreme congestion that we are experiencing at the hospital as a result of being the only referral facility in this part of Ghana,” Frimpong said.
