KATH records 35 deliveries on New Year’s Day

Kumasi, Jan 2, GNA – Thirty-five babies were delivered at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on New Year’s Day. Twenty-eight of them were normal deliveries while six were delivered through caesarean section including a set of male twins. Miss Diana Karikari, Principal Midwifery Superintendent and Miss Comfort Agbenyikey, Senior Midwifery Superintendent on duty, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at KATH on Sunday. They gave the breakdown of the deliveries as 19 boys and nine girls, adding that both parents and the babies were in healthy conditions.

Miss Agbenyikey advised pregnant mothers to always try to deliver at the hospitals, embrace family planning and asked the men also to try and practice vasectomy.

Seven deliveries including a set of male and female twins were recorded at the Suntreso Hospital in Kumasi, Mrs Margaret Barwuah, Nursing Officer told the GNA. She said they were made up of five females and three boys, adding that they were all healthy.

Mrs Barwuah asked pregnant women to endeavour to go in for voluntary tests on HIV/AIDS so that if they were found to be positive they could be given some medications to suppress the virus. She also advised them to always breastfeed their children and also refrain from unnecessary enema, adding that they should regularly visit clinics for advise instead of resorting to enema, which could be dangerous to their health and the body.
