Expensive machines imported by the authorities at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to be installed at the hospital’s ultra-modern Eye Centre, are under threat of getting damaged due to non-usage.
Despite expending colossal sum of money to purchase the sophisticated machines, KATH authorities have so far not been able to install them at the newly constructed Eye Centre for patients to benefit from it.
This depressing situation is lingering on because the machines are sensitive to heat but sadly, some people are occupying the adjoining lands near the Eye Centre whose activities produce excessive heat.
KATH CEO, Prof. Ohene Adjei, said the heat being produced by these people could destroy the expensive machines, so to avert this mishap, the hospital had decided to keep machines at a safer place far from the Eye Centre.
He said the non-usage of the machines could cause the machines to get destroyed so he passionately appealed to the authorities concerned to come to the aid of KATH so that those living close to the Eye Centre would be moved.
Prof Adjei made this known when the newly-elected executives of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) headed by its chairman, Listowell Yesu Bukarson, paid a courtesy call on him on Friday.
He feared that the continual non-usage of the machines at the Eye Centre could result in the equipment getting destroyed which would affect the operations and put pressure on the coffers of the hospital.
Prof Adjei appealed to the media to use their powerful platform to woo the authorities concerned to dispel of people occupying the lands close to the Eye Centre before the facility is officially opened in November, this year.
The KATH CEO bemoaned that the hospital had in the recent past been a victim of bad reportage, a situation which dented the image of the medical facility, calling on journalists to always cross check their facts.
He lamented that the hoax reports by some media practitioners had put fear and panic among some people in the city who were now afraid to visit the hospital for medical attention, adding, the false reports were also demoralizing KATH staff.
The historic meeting was to create a common platform for the newly elected GJA Executive to dialogue with their counterparts from KATH to see how they could work together to transform the hospital.
Dr Baffuor Awuah and Offeh Gyimah, Medical Director and Director of Administration, KATH, respectively, were among the top notch people who were present at the event.
