Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have begun a complex surgical procedure to separate a pair of Siamese twins born three months ago.
The twins were conjoined at the stomach and waist.
The surgeons, who began the procedure Tuesday morning, have been unable to tell when it will end, but were positive the operation will be successful.
Joy FM’s Seth Kwame Boateng, reporting from the surgical ward of KATH, said 17 doctors are involved in the surgery. He said four of the team of doctors have been involved in previous triumphant operations of same nature.
He said the mother of the twins was excited.
She was praying in corridor of the hospital, Seth added, saying she was understandably anxious but hopeful all will go well.
The surgery is being funded by the MTN Foundation which also donated GHS 20,000 as well as Joy FM and its listeners who donated GHS 12,970 as well as .
