Ultimate Radio can confirm that doctors and nurses at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi have called off their week-long strike in protest against porous security at the hospital.
The doctors were protesting against physical attacks on some nurses and doctors by irate youth and relatives of a woman whose dead baby went missing. According to them, the Hospital needed to improve security to protect their lives and property.
The decision to call off the strike, which was taken at an emergency meeting on Thursday, comes a day after the family of the missing baby apologized for their actions at a REGSEC meeting with the doctors and the Hospital’s management.
The doctors had also held a meeting with the Deputy Health Minister Alfred Sugri Tia a day earlier.
Although the doctors are yet to release an official communiqué to confirm the call off, the Public Relations Officer of the Hospital has confirmed to Ultimate Radio. He says the Hospital has received the communication from the doctors’ indicating that they will resume work tomorrow Friday February 21.
Mr. Frimpong tells Ultimate Radio the doctors in their communiqué indicated that they were hopeful measures put in place by the hospital’s management and REGSEC to improve security are adequate.
