KATH accountant pays 11.7 million cedis to ghost doc.

The Ghanaian Times, in another front page story says the authorities of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have uncovered the fraudulent withdrawal and pocketing of the salary of a doctor of the hospital who is said to have long vacated his post.

Dwamena Adonten, a former accountant of the hospital now on transfer to the Atibie Government Hospital identified as the architect of the deal, is said to have pocketed a total of 11.7 million cedis between June 1998 and April this year.

The report continue that after Dr. Osafo vacated his post, Adonten fraudulently transferred his salary from his accounts at the Harper Road branch of the Barclays Bank in Kumasi to the Kumasi branch of the Amanano Rural Bank in June 1998 and succeeded in withdrawing and pocketing Dr. Osafo’s monthly salary.

Adonten, who is currently on a 15 million cedis police bail, was arraigned before a Kumasi Circuit Tribunal last week on charges of forgery and stealing.
