Kassena Nankana Launches IT Programme

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. John Achuliwor, last week launched the Kassena Nankana Information Technology (IT) Foundation in Accra.

It was set up to raise funds to establish an IT training centre in the Kassena Nankana District to provide computer training for students in JSS, SSS and tertiary institutions.

Launching it Mr. Achuliwor said to execute the programme in a cost effective manner, the district has formed partnership with JKS and Associates International, a computer software developing company to offer training to the youth.

The Minister was not happy about the poor performance of students in the three northern regions.

He observed that there has been a drastic fall in the standard of education in the area and many students performed poorly in English and mathematics. The Minister said because many students could not make the grade to continue their education many youths have become unemployed in the area.

Mr. Achuliwor who is also Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, pointed out that no company was ready to offer jobs to school leavers who have bad grades in mathematics and English.

Mr. Achuliwor announced that computers would be pooled at a resource centre in the first phase of the project to make the centre more accessible and affordable. The programme will commence from next month.

Ms. Emma Amoatin, Acting Chief Executive of JKS and Associates International pledged the support of her company to help make the programme a success.
