Regardless of the nation’s current economic quagmire, John Mahama’s NDC administration is still poised to deliver as the Kasoa road, famous for its terrible traffic congestion on the Accra-Cape coast highway, is to benefit from a $172 million flyover.
The newly constructed interchange, according to Minister for Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, will have “an upper level flyover in the Accra-Winneba direction with an objective to remove the congestion at the intersection by allowing free and easy access to the main flyover from all four directions via a loop system.”
Mr. Omane Boamah further added that ‘‘there will also be pedestrian crossings, located at all points which access the roundabout to ensure safety.’’
According to him, the traffic situation on the Kasoa stretch of the Accra-Winneba road for some time now has been a major concern for traders and motorist who ply the road in pursuance of their daily activities.
‘‘The construction of the new interchange will be a fulfilment of President John Mahama’s promise to solve the traffic situation in the area and ensure that Kasoa is provided with the needed infrastructure to befit its fast growing status,” Mr. Boamah noted.
Stating further that, after completion, the project will help ease the traffic situation- from Kasoa, stretching westwards towards Gomoa and leading to Winneba and Cape Coast, Nyanyanor, Bawjiase and Accra- to the barest minimum.
The contract, according to the communications minister, has been awarded to Queiroz Galvao, the Brazilian firm executing the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange whose technology and approach has been commended by engineers.
