Karim Zito Begins Talks to Convince Samba O’Neil to Switch Nationality to Ghana

Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has confirmed he has opened discussions with in-form defender Samba O’Neil about switching nationality to represent Ghana.

The Congolese centre-back has been one of Kotoko’s standout performers this season, playing a key role in stabilising the defence while also contributing crucial goals. His latest came on Wednesday, 19 November, when he scored a late match-winner against Young Apostles in their outstanding matchday six fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Reflecting on his impact, Zito revealed that he has already begun encouraging the defender to consider committing his international future to the Black Stars.

“Samba O’Neil is exceptional and I’ve started trying to convince him to switch nationality to Ghana,” the coach said after the game.

Samba has previously featured for Rahimo FC, AS Douanes and Sahel SC before joining Kotoko, where his performances have quickly endeared him to fans and attracted national attention.

If successful, the move would add much-needed depth to Ghana’s defensive options and mark another example of the country expanding its talent pool through naturalisation.
