Kanton SHS teacher rapes 16-year-old student

Mr Emmanuel Doho, a teacher of the Kanton Senior High School in Tumu in the Sissala East District has been remanded into prison custody by the Wa Magistrate Court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.

The teacher, believed to be in his early 30s, allegedly committed the crime on January 27, making it the second of such incidents in recent years in the school.

The first incident occurred in 2009 and the teacher involved is currently serving a seven-year jail term at the Wa Prisons.

Chief Inspector Stephen Frimpong told the court that on Saturday, January 27, Doho invited the girl to his bungalow to perform certain household chores for him and in the process the act occurred.

The girl, feeling traumatized by the incident, called the father on phone and informed him about her ordeal and he reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Office in Tumu.

Chief Inspector Frimpong said upon receiving the information the police quickly went to the school to arrest the teacher.

He said medical examination was performed on the girl and the result was presented to the Magistrate Court in Wa, who adjourned the case to February 12.
