Kankan complains of neglect by NHIS officials

Kankan (C/R), Nov. 29, GNA – The people of Kankan (Dutch Komenda) in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem district of the Central Region have complained about total neglect by the secretariat of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

They said since officers of the scheme came from Elmina to number houses to commence registration of the people about two years ago they had not visited the community again.

“Nobody has since come here to either register us, take our photographs for ID cards or collect premium”, Maame Adjoa Mansa, a resident, complained bitterly.

This came to light at a public forum organised by the chief of the town Nana Kofi Mununkum III, on Sunday to discuss common problems facing the community and suggest solutions. Speaker after speaker appealed to the NHIS as a matter of urgency to go to the town and its environs to register the people. They said they recognised the immense benefits they would gain by registering under the scheme and nothing should be done for them to be left out of the scheme.

Nana Mununkum gave the assurance that he and his elders would work to get the people registered for them to enjoy its benefits when the scheme takes off.

He advised them to keep their environments clean always in order to avoid the outbreak of cholera and other communicable diseases.
