Ghana’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, HE Kabral Blay-Amihere has paid two days working visit to Ghanaian troops serving with the United Nations Operations in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI). He was met on arrival by the Commanding Officer of UNOCI Ghanbatt 9, Lt Col Albert Adu at the Battalion Headquarters located in Bondoukou.
After inspecting a guard of honour, HE Kabral Blay-Amihere received briefing on the activities of the Battalion. Touching on the operational situation in Cote d’Ivoire, Maj Lawrence Gbetanu, the Second-in-Command of the Battalion, said the current situation appears to be calm but added that this could change when campaign for the forth-coming elections intensifies.
During interaction with officers and men of the Battalion, He commended the Commanding Officer, Lt Col Albert Adu for his leadership role of the Battalion and for ensuring sustained peace in his area of operational responsibility. He assured troops of Governments effort in acquiring the necessary logistics for all the peacekeeping missions and added that soon, additional equipment would be brought to augment the aging ones in Cote d’Ivoire for their smooth operations. He took the opportunity to commend troops of UNOCI Ghanbatt 9 for their professionalism and discipline and advised troops to invest the little income they receive.
The Commanding Officer of UNOCI Ghanbatt 9, Lt Col Albert Adu thanked the ambassador for the visit and added that it will go a long way in motivating his troops to perform even better, especially as the elections in Cote d’Ivoire is around the corner. He also took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to higher command back home for all the support given him and assured that all efforts would be made to raise the flag of Ghana very high. HE Kabral Blay-Amihere was accompanied by Ghana’s Defence Adviser to Cote d’Ivoire, Gp Capt Aquah and some staff officers of the Ghana Embassy.
