K Poly: Students demonstrate over SRC corruption

Students of Kumasi Polytechnic on Monday April 25 wore red armbands and chanted war songs in protest against alleged abuse of funds by the school’s Students Representative Council (SRC).

The students also accused management of the school of conniving with the SRC to loot their coffers.

The demonstrating students blocked the main entrance to the campus and locked lecture halls.

They were demanding a refund of their dues, which they said were being misused.

The police were, however, present to protect life and property.

Class News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent, Aboagye Frank Jackson, reported that tensions were calmed when the rector of the school, professor Nicholas N. N. Nsowah-Nuamah, spoke to them.

He told the demonstrating students the school was theirs, and, so, there was no need to go about destroying school property.

He advised them to put their grievances on paper and authorities would address them accordingly.
