K-Poly inducts Prof Nsowah-Nuamah as new Rector

Kumasi, Nov 26, GNA – Professor Nicholas Nicodemus Nana Nsowah-Nuamah, was on Friday inducted into office as Rector of the Kumasi Polytechnic at a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the school. He was a senior research fellow, at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, Legon. He succeeds Dr Benjamin Kwesi Prah.

Professor Nsowah-Numah in a speech bemoaned the current state of polytechnic education in the country and recommended that they are allowed to run a four-year Bachelor of Technology degree programmes to make them competitive in tertiary education environment. His vision, he said, is to position “the polytechnic as a leading outcome-driven entrepreneurial institute of higher learning in the region, offering world class and accessible high quality technical and professional training and research to drive the socio-economic development of Ghana and Africa.

To achieve this, Professor Nsowah-Nuamah pledged to build-up the polytechnic; produce quality output in large quantities and improve the environment for research, teaching and learning.

He would work to make Kumasi polytechnic relevant to both government and society, develop strong partnership with local industry, build linkages with foreign and local institutions, improve governance, expand infrastructure and improve financial resource mobilization. Professor Nsowah-Nuamah said he would transform the polytechnic into one of the internationally acclaimed academic centres and faculties. It would be issuing its own certificates, produce Masters and Doctors degree holders in technology for teaching and research by the end of his tenure of office. He called for support from all stakeholders to achieve his vision for the polytechnic. 26 Nov.10
