Richard Nyamah writes;
His election as general secretary was greeted with shock and hope in equal measure but in time, he has served us with weakness cloaked as meek leadership, incompetence and inexperience masked as humble leadership and the result is a fragmented, disillusioned party.
Three critical decisions in my mind, have defined the leadership of Mr. Kodua as the General Secretary of the NPP.
First and foremost was his disastrous declaration that the NPP would not contest the rerun of some Polling stations in the Ablekuma elections. It was an NPP seat the NDC was angling to snatch from us and without nothing to lose, he showed weakness when he should be bold and strong. It was obvious he had not consulted broadly before that decision was taken, because the very next day, presidential aspirants lined up one after the other to show support for the candidate and encourage her and campaigned for her. All we needed was to flood Ablekuma with our party footsoldiers (security) who we had abandoned and disbanded and let the NDC government ( who kept thiers) do their worst. The result? We lost a safe seat.
Secondly, his decision to declare that the NPP will not contest Tamale Central was the case of mourning more than the bereaved. It was the highest mark of cowardice and weak leadership. It was an attempt to politically bargain with the NDC to also withdraw from Akwatia. Which they smartly refused and snatched from us. This decision emboldened the NDC who saw fear of losing Akwatia on our part and they went with full force and snatched it.
Now the NDC has Ablekuma, Akwatia and Tamale central which we could have used to outdoor our candidate for the next election to say the least. Bear in mind the NPP has won Tamale central before with Alhaji Iddris Mustapha under President Kufour.
It is my sincere hope that Mr. Kodua will take some time and reflect on his four year tenure of weak, incompetent, inexperienced and flip-flopping leadership and do the honorable thing and spear us even of the idea of wanting to contest for the leadership position again.
The NPP is in opposition and needs a bold, strong, fearless general secretary who will strategically position the NPP push to the NDC to acquiesce rather we capitulating to the NDC on every turn.
The NPP needs to reorganize its footsoldiers ( security), motivate them, train them and give them the tools an opposition party needs to give to its members to snatched power from the ruling government. Cowards don’t win elections. Brave men do.
