Justice Comes To Ex-ABC Staff After 13 Years

A Tema High Court has ordered the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC) to pay ?3.1 billion to 64 workers of the Achimota Brewery Company (ABC) who were laid off in 1992.

The judge, Babra Acka-Yensu said ?it is hereby ordered that the DIC is compelled to pay the amount of ?3,103,195,155 stipulated in the report of the Expert consultant appointed by DIC, in accordance with the judgment of April 2001,? adding the interest on the outstanding amount was to be assessed from April 30, 1992 until date of payment.

The defendants, Attorney General and DIC, according on affidavit, were insensitive to the plight of workers, who have been out of work for over 13 years without compensation, and have refused judgment for three years to the workers? detriment.
