The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has rescinded its decision to embark on an indefinite strike which was to have taken effect Friday, October 21, 2016.
According to the executives of JUSAG, a letter from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has addressed their demands, except few which they believe the government will address.
JUSAG has therefore given the government up to the end of the month of October to resolve the ones which were not captured in the letter.
The reliefs being sought by the State Attorneys are:
Payments of correct harmonized salaries to state attorneys Sustainable pension scheme Free official vehicles Research allowance Housing facilities or allowance Free healthcare Payment of outstanding leap, clothing and fuel Payment of outstanding promotion salary arrears Logistic support, machinery, equipment and tools And illegal revision of conditions of service for state attorneys.
But some JUSAG members are not happy about the decision to call off the strike, Onua FM’s Bismark Boateng reports.
Interestingly, the cancellation of the intended action was announced at a press conference that was initially called by JUSAG to announce its strike.
Bismark reports that prior to the conference, JUSAG President, Alex Nartey, requested all the media personnel in the auditorium to excuse JUSAG members to enable them hold a closed-door meeting before the media would be addressed.
After an hour of closed-door meeting, Mr. Nartey told the media that they had received a letter from the Chief of Staff indicating government’s commitment in resolving their issues so they have rescinded the decision to embark on strike.
This did not go down well with some of the members who started chanting but they were calmed down by some of their colleagues.
