The wreath laying ceremony at the Revolution Square on Monday morning to mark the 33rd Anniversary of the June Four Uprising, created huge traffic on the Accra-Legon Road, leaving commuters stranded and frustrated.
The road in front of the Flagstaff House was partially blocked leading to a snail pace flow of traffic on the route.
As at 1030 hours, commuters were still stuck in the heavy traffic causing many workers to be late for work.
Some commercial drivers who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed their frustration, saying such activities should be held at a time that would not create inconvenience for commuters along principal routes, so that socio economic activities are not disrupted.
The scorching early morning sun did not make matters easy for the commuters who criticised the situation from different angles.
Some vehicles coming from Accra to Madina had to divert their routes and drive behind the Flagstaff House to join the road leading to the Kawukudi junction.
The Police were however positioned at the various traffic lights to direct traffic and to help calm down the anguished commuters.
The activity, which was in commemoration of the 33rd Anniversary of the June Four Revolution, saw Former President Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, lighting the perpetual flame at the Revolution Square, across the Flag Staff House.**
