Jukwa Mfuom gets potable water

Jukwa Mfuom, Aug. 18, GNA – More than 36,000 people in four communities in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira district of the Central Region, have heaved a sigh of relief, with the provision of pipe-born water, ending their perennial water problem once and for all.

The project, executed by the Community Water and Sanitation Agency at a total cost of GH¢52,000,000, was financed by the World Bank and Government of Ghana, with the beneficiary communities and the district assembly contributing 10% of the amount.

The communities are Wawase, Hemang, Krobo and Mfuom.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Foster Andoh, made a symbolic handing over of the projects at Mfuom on Tuesday and said, the government had through its 93Better Ghana Policy” promised to extend potable water to all communities in the country.

He urged the people to have confidence in the government and support its developmental programmes to enable it to develop the district.

The DCE reminded the communities that potable water is an essential commodity that had eluded them for so many years and that they should value it and avoid wastage.

He asked them to consider the effects of drought or water shortage and use it judiciously, to ensure it’s accessorily at all times, adding that, they should keep the environment clean to avoid contracting water borne diseases, such as cholera and worm infestations.

Mr Yaw Ahenkan, who deputized for the Member of Parliament for Twifo-Hemang-Lower Denkyira, Reverend Ben Bimpong Donkor, commended the communities for contributing the required percentage towards the water project, despite the financial constraints.

He advised the managers of the project to adopt a maintenance culture, to help sustain the project, adding that, similar project will be extended to more communities within the next five years.
