The Spokesperson of the Ghana Bar Association, Mr. Tony Forson, says judges caught in the latest corruption scandal exposed by Ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas must be penalised according to the provisions of the constitution.

Thirty-four Ghanaian judges face impeachment in the coming weeks about to hit Ghana entangles them in a damning corruption scandal.

The high profile judges including, Justice John Ajet-Nassam, a High Court Judge, who freed Alfred Agbesi Woyome in the controversial Gh¢51 million judgment debt scandal, have been videotaped and audio recorded in separate conversations with suspects or persons acting as agents of suspects before them to compromise big cases.

Mr. Forson speaking in an interview with host of Morning Starr Robert Nii Arday Clegg Wednesday on Starr 103.5FM said the Ghana Bar Association has not taken a position on the exposé because members are yet to see the video.

He, however, added that all judges indicted must be removed as stipulated by the constitution.

“Unfortunately, not all of us have seen this video, we have just seen snippets…as an association, the decision we have taken…is that the constitution makes provisions for the removal of superior court judges in Article 146 so as a body, we have decided that we will wait and allow the constitutional provisions run its course…in order not to prejudice any person’s interest because this is a very serious matter,” Mr. Forson said.

Mr. Forson also described the scandal as shocking and worrying adding that it is an embarrassment to the entire judicial system.

The over two years painstaking investigations by Anas in collaboration with StarrFMonline.com will be released in full in the coming weeks, ahead of a premiere at the Accra International Conference Centre.
