Tema, Aug 13, GNA – A trial judge at the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’, has advised police investigators to prefer appropriate charges against accused persons.
Mr Stephen Teye, who presided over a case involving a complainant, who was deprived of his mobile phone by an assailant, who was armed with a club, said the charge of stealing preferred against the accused was not appropriate.
He explained that the use of any violent means to demand or take something, from a person, no matter how small, was an act of armed robbery and not stealing.
Mr Teye therefore, ordered the prosecution to review the charge sheet.
The plea of Ebenezer Atterh the accused person was not taken and was remanded to reappear on August 24.
Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the Court that on June 13, the accused attacked a pastor at Tema and took away his mobile phone and some business address cards.
Inspector Agbedanu said the pastor later identified the accused and caused his arrest.
