JSS three-student dies on the way to examination centre

Akim Nyankomase (E/R), April 19, GNA – A 14-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS) Form Three Student of Akyem Nyankomase was killed when a taxicab conveying her to the Akyem Aperade Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Centre was involved in an accident on Sunday.

The student, Faustina Nkansah and six of her colleagues were travelling from Nyankomase to Aperade, both in the Brim South District of the Eastern Region, where they were to stay during the examination period, which started on Monday and would end on Friday. The Akim Swedru District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cephas Bediako told the Ghana News Agency that the Driver of the overloaded car lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into a river a few kilometres to Akyem Aperade.

DSP Bediako said a Farmer, who arrived at the scene of the accident, managed to rescue six of the students, who were rushed to the Akyem Aperade Health Centre, where they were treated and discharged. He said Faustina could not be found until Monday when divers retrieved the body from the river. DSP Bediako said since the accident, the Driver of the vehicle had not been seen.

Meanwhile the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital for autopsy.
