JSS 2 Student Commits Suicide

A 15 year old form two student, Chriatian Kyere of the Yamfo Roman Catholic(R/C) JSS, on June12, 2007, poisoned himself following alleged maltreatment from his auntie, Rose Nyarko, an Assemblywoman and UncleYaw Atem .

The shocking incident occured at Yamfo in theTano South District in the Brong Ahafo Region

Chief Inspector Samuel Amoani of the Yamfo Police Station told Space FM that on June 11, 2007, Kyere allegedly stole ¢40,000 from his grandfather Opanin Yaw Apamasu.

He continued that Kyere was given some lashes by his uncle while the auntie threatened to report the matter to his school authorities for further punishment.

Chief Inspector Amoani said the next day, Kyere refused to go to school for fear of being punished by authorities.

At about 2:00pm, Kyere was found unconscious and foaming in the mouth and subsequently rushed to the regional hospital in Sunyani. He was however pronounced dead on arrival by Dr Solomon Fofie.The doctor’s report said Kyere died from drinking a poisonous substance

But the doctor, suspecting foul play, ordered that the matter be reported to the police.

Chief Inspector Amoani said the suspects,Rose Nyarko and Yaw Atem, were subsequently arrested for questioning. They were later granted police bail to report daily at the police station.
