JOY FM Call Elections For Kufuor

The incumbent John Kufuor of the New Patriotic Party is set for a second term as President of Ghana, as counting from the 2004 elections comes to an end.

JoyFM estimates at 6:01 pm local time suggest President Kufuor will get the over 50 per cent votes he needs for an outright victory in the first round.

With 7,069,782 million votes counted, the NPP has won 3,904,038 at 55.22 per cent. His closest rival John Attah Mills of the opposition NDC has 2,989,022 million votes at 42.28 per cent.

The NPP now requires 215,964 votes from the remaining 48 constituencies to win a second term in office as the President of Ghana.

Kufuor’s campaign manager Jake Obetsebi Lamptey told JoyFM that the Kufuor camp is preparing to celebrate a hard fought victory.

“From our estimates we have won and it is a great feeling”, he said.
