A two-day dissemination training on the findings of the Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS) round six, (GLSS6), including the Ghana Poverty profile, opened at Fumesua in the Kumasi Metropolis on Thursday.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), with support from the UK Department for International Development is organising the training, being attended by about 50 journalists drawn from Ashanti, Eastern and Brong-Ahafo Regions.
The GLSS is one of the most important data sources, which provide a wealth of information for understanding living conditions in the country.
According to Mr Sylvester Gyamfi, Director of Coordination and Programme Management at the GSS, reports prepared from the GLSS6 include valuable information essential for planning and decision-making, as well as monitoring and evaluation of programmes at all levels of national development.
He said the GSS would soon disseminate the GLSS6 reports (2012-2013), which covered health, environment, education, employment, poverty, child labour and housing.
Mr Gyamfi said data collection is very important for a developing country, but expressed worry about certain methodologies some organizations used in data monitoring and collection.
