Journalism Standards In Ghana Have Fallen

Sixteen finalists have been selected for this year?s CNN-Multi Choice African Journalists of the Year Award.

Most of them are from the southern African region, with a few from the eastern part of the continent. One Nigerian finalist represents West Africa.

In an interview with Joy News, the originator of the awards, Edward Boateng, expressed regret that there is no Ghanaian among the finalists.

? I think some of the problems are lack of logistics on the part of the media company by not resourcing the journalist enough,? he says

Mr. Boateng says journalists are not communicating issues in a comprehensive way by presenting some levels of organized research in their presentations.

? Journalists themselves should be able to tell a story in a clear and balanced manner as well as display some levels of organized research to get an insight into a particular story, But Journalists are not doing that, they are scrapping the surface,? he says.

The winners of the competition, now in its tenth year, will be presented with their prizes at a gala awards ceremony in Kenya on June 25.
