Jomoro Teaching Assistants appeal for payment of allowance

Half Assini (W/R), Oct. 28, GNA – Sixty Teaching Assistants under the Nation Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) have appealed to the authorities too pay them their allowances. A spokesman of the Assistants who pleaded anonymity said they had not been paid since May and that four Community Police Assistants had also not been paid.

He said when the announcement was made on the radio that all NYEP persons had been paid their allowance, they checked from their banks last Monday but were told that their money had not been paid. Mr Patrice Ackah, the Jomoro District Deputy Coordinator of the NYEP, confirmed the story and appealed to them to exercise restraint while efforts were being made to pay them.

He said all their documents including duty assumption letters of the Teaching Assistants had been forwarded to the headquarters of the NYEP through their regional office. Mr Bartholomew Ofori, the Jomoro District Director of Education, said he did know anything about the allowance or salaries of the Teaching Assistants and therefore cannot say much about it. n
