Residents of Tweakor 1, Tweakor 2, Navrongo and Bentilibo in Ghana’s Western Region are closer to being connected to the national electricity grid after Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo Toffey provided an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer.
The transformer is part of the MP’s commitment to extend electricity to the four communities, where residents have been waiting for improved and more reliable access to power.
However, electricity supply cannot begin until the required technical procedures, installation work and other conditions have been completed by the relevant electricity authorities.
The provision marks a significant stage in fulfilling Ms Affo Toffey’s promise, but the communities will need to await the completion of the remaining processes before the transformer can translate into an active power connection.
Access to electricity is expected to support households, local businesses and schools in the four communities. It should also improve convenience at home and contribute to better access to essential services.
For business operators, a reliable supply could create opportunities to establish or expand small enterprises. Improved power access is also expected to support educational activities and contribute to wider local development.
The intervention by the Jomoro MP, who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, addresses one of the infrastructure challenges facing Tweakor 1, Tweakor 2, Navrongo and Bentilibo.
Providing the transformer represents a practical step towards improving living conditions, although its full impact will depend on the timely completion of the outstanding technical and installation work.
Residents are now looking to the relevant authorities to finish the necessary requirements so that power can be delivered to the four communities.
The development has raised hopes among households and businesses that have long anticipated connection to the national grid. It is also expected to strengthen confidence in efforts to expand access to basic infrastructure in the Jomoro Municipality.
For Ms Affo Toffey, the transformer is an important part of delivering on her commitment to the people of the constituency. For residents, it offers renewed hope that electricity supply, and the economic and social benefits associated with it, is within reach.
The four communities must now wait for the remaining processes to be completed before the long-awaited access to electricity becomes a reality.
