Joint REGSEC assures public of security on Dec. 7

Bolgatanga, Nov. 30, GNA – The people of the Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions have been assured of adequate security to ensure peace and order in the December 7 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The assurance was contained in a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of the Fourth Joint Regional Security Committees (REGSEC) meeting in Bolgatanga on Tuesday, to review the security situation in the four regions, with particular emphasise on the elections.

The Regional Ministers, Co-ordinating Directors, representatives of the Police, CEPS, Prisons and the Military in the four Regions attended. The communiqu=E9 warned that the security agencies would deal firmly and drastically with persons who attempted to disrupt the smooth conduct of the electoral process.

It urged voters to leave the polling stations after casting their ballots, and called on the public to report any individual or group of persons suspected to be planning any mischief aimed at disrupting the elections to the security agencies.

The communiqu=E9 cautioned the media, especially FM radio stations, to crosscheck all information regarding the elections from the Electoral Commission (EC) broadcasting or publishing them.

It appealed to political party executives as well as independent candidates to advise their supporters to comport themselves during and after the polls and urged the public to go about their normal duties without fear.

Mr. Mahami Salifu, Upper East Regional Minister who also stood in for the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ernest Debrah, Mr. Mogtari Sahanun, Upper West Regional Minister and Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister signed the communiqu=E9.
