Johnson Adjei wins Cape Coast Municipal best farmer award

Jukwa Koforidua(C/R), Dec. 03, GNA – Mr Johnson Adjei, a 45-year old farmer from Dehia was last Friday adjudged the best farmer in the Cape Coast Municipality for the fifth time, at the 22nd Farmers and Fishermen’s day held at Jukwa Koforidua in the Central Region. He received a television set, four cutlasses, a half-piece of wax print, a pair of Wellington boots, two bars of key soap, four tins of agro-chemicals, a watering can and a rechargeable lamp, all valued at about 2.3 million cedis.

Mr Adjei cultivates an acre cocoa farm, 14 acres oil palm plantation, 18 acres cassava, four acres maize, two acres Acacia plantation and 22 sheep.

Fourteen farmers were presented with prizes that included cutlasses, wax prints and poultry feed.

Ms Juliana Maison, a staff of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) was adjudged the best worker.

Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister and Acting Cape Coast Municipal Chief Executive in an address read on his behalf, commended farmers and fishermen in the municipality for their contribution to agriculture.

He congratulated the award winners for their hard work and advised farmers and fishermen who did not win awards not to rest on their oars but work hard to honoured in future.

Mr Justice Amoah, Cape Coast Municipal Director of Agriculture said Government had allocated 45 billion cedis to the agricultural sector for micro and small scale loans and credit schemes. He said part of the money would be made available to farmers in the municipality for maize production, and therefore urged them to take advantage of the schemes to increase production and improve their living standards.
