National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Communications, Hon. John Mahama, has slammed his party’s decision to sever ties with the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), describing it as unfortunate.
According to Hon. Mahama, who is also the MP for Bole-Bamboi, NDC cannot pick and choose CDD findings, and at the same time, find fault with the organisation. Speaking on Metro TV on Friday, the Bole MP and a former minister of communications, stated that basing the party’s decision to cut relationship with CDD over the Afro-Barometer, leaves a lo to be desired, pointing out that, there were a lot of other issues which NDC could have capitalized on.
“If it is the Afro-Barometer, there are more issues indicting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and we could have capitalized on it”, he noted. Hon. Mahama who may vie for the NDC flagbearership for the 2008 election, explained, a situation whereby NDC quotes from CDD reports, but condemns when the reports are against the party, could only be described as ?pick-and-choose.”
He cited the CDD report on incumbency, released in the run-up to the December 7, 2004 elections, as a case in point. The report which, he described as a fantastic job, according to him, received a favourable response in NDC circles, but wondered why the party was turning its back against the CDD. The opposition NDC last Thursday announced that it was formerly severing relations with the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) since it considered the Centre to be an appendage of the ruling NPP.
