John Mahama made irresponsible appointments – PC Appiah Ofori

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Hon P C Appiah Ofori has observed that irresponsible appointments made by former President John Dramani Mahama, few days to exit office is to blame for the delay in the payment of salaries to the president’s ‘elephant size ministers’

There have been reports that ministers and other appointees of the current government are yet to receive their first salaries six months after their engagement,

But the antigraft crusader observed that it is so because there were hasty appointments in the previous administration few days before they handed over power further piling pressure on the national purse.

“Former President John Mahama’s government made a number of irresponsible appointments and there is the need for the current administration to purge the payroll of such persons who are undeserving of salaries yet draw money. Some of them are even on retirement”, he disclosed to Kwame Adinkra on Kumnasi-based Abusua Fm.

“There are a lot of ghost names on government’s payroll and Nana Addo must deal with them before he clears the path for the ministers and other appointees to be paid. It is unfortunate they are delaying in the payment of these appointments but I am sure he is doing so to curb wasteful payments in order to save the purse”, he added.

The former lawmaker is optimistic that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will ruthlessly deal with corrupt practices in the country by dealing with culprits especially with the Special Prosecutor initiative.

“I am sure he will deal with corruption through the office of the Special Prosecutor”, he added.
