Joe Sam confirmed as DCE for Upper Manya

Asesewa, (E/R) March 21, GNA – Mr Joe Sam, New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Upper Manya Constituency in 1996 and 2000, was on Thursday confirmed as the District Chief Executive for the newly created Upper Manya District Assembly. All 36 members of the Assembly present voted in his favour in an election conducted by the District Electoral Commission. In his acceptance speech after the election, Mr Sam thanked the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him to lead them and assured that he would operate an open-door policy to ensure that the district gets its share of the national cake. He told them that because it was a new district, it would require the services and support of everybody to develop the area. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Kwadwo Afram-Asiedu, commended the members of the Assembly for showing maturity by voting massively for Mr Sam.

He reminded them that for the new assembly to succeed and make any meaningful impact on their lives, it was important that those appointed or elected to handle the day to day administration of the assembly must be people with proven integrity and competence. He advised them to eschew back-biting and rather support the District Chief Executive to discharge his duties effectively to fast track the development agenda of the district. Mr Afram-Asiedu cautioned the new DCE to embrace everybody to ensure unity and be transparent in all his dealings. The DCE was later sworn into office by the Asesewa Circuit Court Judge, Justice Kwasi Asiedu Asmah. 21 March 08
