Remodelling work on Job 600, a post independence edifice, is now scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2012, a Government Official announced in Accra on Tuesday.
Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, announced this during a tour of the facility to ascertain the extent of work done on the structure.
It was built by the administration of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s First President to accommodate participants attending the OAU (now African Union) Conference held in Accra in 1965.
The structure when completed is expected to house up to 275 modern offices for members of Parliament and their research assistants.
Mr Ekow Bentsi-Enchill, Resident Engineer of ADK Consortium, told Ghana News Agency the project would be completed on schedule and be ready for use by the “new stock of Members of Parliament,” next year.
He said the China State Hualong Construction Company, was employed a year-and-half ago to complete the rehabilitation project at a total cost of 60 million dollars.
Mr Bentsi-Enchill said so far 75 per cent of the work on the project had been completed, and gave the assurance that by May 2012, 300 containers of construction materials and equipments meant for the project would be received to facilitate speedy completion of the edifice.**
