Joaquim Chissano arrives in Ghana

Accra, May 31, GNA – The former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, has arrived in Accra to open the eighth Annual Stakeholders’ Meeting of Medicines for Malaria Venture(MMV)

The two-day stakeholders meeting which would be inaugurated by Major Courage Quashigah, Minister of Health, would highlight MVS’ achievements in the past year and discuss the progress of its role in the global malaria eradication campaign. A release issued by the MMV, said Mr Chissano, who is head of the Joaquim Chissano Foundation, would also preside over the MMV award ceremony, and present the winners of the first ever MMV Malaria Drug Innovation Award and the Project of the Year Award. It said MMV would also hold its second annual Access Symposium which opens on 1st June, 2008.

The release said MMV, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, would organize a drawing competition for selected primary school children, which would end with an Award ceremony on May 30, 2008 at the Ghana National Association of Teachers Hall in Accra. Medicines for Malaria Venture is the premier drug development organization focused on developing the best medicines for people at risk of malaria.
