JJ invited to 25th Annual Meeting of The National Conference of Black Majors

A special invitation has also been sent to Jerry Rawlings, President of Ghana to attend the 25th Annual Meeting of The National Conference of Black Majors.

More than 300 African-American Mayors will be in Denver April 20-25, 1999 for the 25th Annual meeting of the National Conference of Black Mayors and a virtual “who’s who” in American politics has been invited to address the Mayors. The theme of the annual event is “Cities for Centuries” and will highlight issues and topics that American cities are facing as they enter the 21st Century. The majority of events will take place at the Adams Mark Hotel located in downtown Denver.

Mayor Webb will welcome more than 300 Mayors from throughout the country including: Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell; San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown; Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton; Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk; Houston Mayor Lee Brown; Newark, NJ Mayor Sharpe James; Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer; New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial; Cleveland Mayor Michael White; and Kansas City Mayor Emanuel Cleaver, II.

The NCBM has also invited several prominent officials to speak at the conference including; Vice President Al Gore; Secretary of Labor Alexis Herman; Congressmen Jesse Jackson, Jr. and Harold Ford, Jr; Secretary of Agriculture Daniel Glickman; Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Andrew Cuomo; National Urban League President Hugh Price; President and CEO of the NAACP Kweisi Mfume; RNC Chairman Jim Nicholson and DNC Chairman Roy Romer.

While the entire schedule has not been finalized, the Mayors will be addressing issues such as:

* Y2K

* Welfare to Work

* Transportation

* Fannie Mae

* Brownfields

* Small Business

* FCC issues

* Census
