Winner of the 2017 edition of Citi FM’s Literacy Challenge, Krystyn Adole Bruce, has called on the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to implement certain policies aimed at minimizing the poor sanitation conditions in the country.
Contestants of this year’s edition of the Citi FM Literacy Challenge were tasked to write a letter to the president, suggesting ways in which Accra could be made the cleanest city in Africa.
Miss Bruce’s letter came out as the best among the others.
Speaking on TV3’s ‘After Hours’ show hosted by Mikki Osei Berko, the brilliant scholar made reference to her letter, citing initiatives such as placing a ban on plastics bags, innovative management of waste and the introduction of a Sanitation Police.
“In the essay, I wrote about banning plastics. We should ban plastics completely. The second thing was finding innovative ways of managing our waste like using our plastic waste to generate electricity like the way Sweden does, or in the Philippines. I also wrote about launching a department of sanitation police because there are sanitation courts so there should be a department of sanitation police,” she explained.
She also suggested that President Akufo-Addo comes up with a competition for students, particularly those in Junior High Schools, to discover who among them can devise the most innovative way to manage waste in the country.
Talking about the Ghana Digital Address System, the Christ the King JHS student admitted that it was a laudable initiative which would go a long way to help the nation if managed properly.
“I think it is a good idea since it can be used to track everyone. You can also use it to track criminals. So it will just make the work of the police easier. And it will also help make delivery of emergency services faster,” Krystyn opined.
The Citi FM Literacy Challenge seeks to promote and reward the versatility and intelligence of Ghana’s Junior High School (JHS) students.
The challenge is also aimed at celebrating the various talents and skills of Ghana’s JHS students, while encouraging Ghanaians to do even more for literacy development in Ghana.
