JHS student kills mum

Yaw Adu-Gyamfi, a 20-year-old Junior High School (JHS) student, who allegedly stabbed his 35-year-old mother to death at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District, is being held in police custody.

He is believed to have committed matricide in apparent anger over accusations by the deceased, Akua Asiama that he had stolen her cellular phone and purse. Police Inspector Alex Baidoo confirmed the tragedy to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Edubbiase.

Insp. Baidoo said Asiama woke up at dawn to prepare a meal for her other child, who was observing the Ramadan. Insp. Baidoo said when Asiama returned to the room, she could not find her cellular phone and purse and she confronted the suspect but he denied stealing the phone and purse.

This resulted in a misunderstanding between Asiama and her son and Adu-Gyamfi stabbed her mother, who was rushed to the Edubiase Government Hospital, where she died three days after admission.
