Accra, May 10, GNA – The Jayee Institute on Saturday held its third matriculation in Accra with a call on the Ghana Education Service to promote career development and employment services as part of the educational curriculum.
Mr. Akwasi Asabre-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) who made the call in Accra said this was necessary to provide the needed transition for the youth to enter into the job market after training.
In all 313 students constituting 22% males and 78% females out of 450 applicants matriculated to offer diploma and degree programmes in Office Management, Secretarial, Accounting, Public Relations and Marketing and Journalism. Mr. Asabre-Ameyaw reminded educational institutions to ensure that training they provide addressed the fundamental values of society to harness efforts to attain sustained economic growth. He urged the students to pursue academic excellence, lead moral upright lives and follow the appropriate communication channels in resolving differences with school authorities. Mr. John E. Donkor, Principal of Jayee said the programmes offered at the institute in partnership with the UEW was intended to give their graduates wider marketability and the opportunity to qualify them for further academic programmes. “This partnership seeks to innovate and radically transform the way we train our professionals, providing them with specific knowledge to make them more effective and also give them the opportunity to advance their careers in their specific areas without hindrance.” he stated. Mr. Donkor announced that the institute will commence a degree programme in journalism with specializations in sports, political science, business and finance, a proposal which was recently approved by UEW. Mr Donkor also mentioned that the institute from next semester will introduce a diploma certificate course in Education with lecturers from UEW. The principal advised the students to be of good behaviour and obedient to all who constitute the authority of the institute and avoid excessive drinking, smoking, drugs and other vices which will not help them attain the best for themselves. Mr. Donkor urged the students to show interest in the study of ICT and set high standards for themselves.
