Japanese Prime Minister leaves

Accra, May 03, GNA – Mr Junichiro Koizumi, Japanese Prime Minister, on Wednesday left Accra for Sweden en route to Japan after a three-day visit to Ghana.

President John Agyekum Kufuor and Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama saw him off at the Kotoka International airport.

Also present were Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Foreign Minister, Mr Kwadwo Mpiani, Chief of Staff and Minister for Presidential Affairs, Mr Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lieutenant General Joseph Boateng Danquah, Chief of Defence Staff, and Mr Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong, Inspector General of Police (IGP). Prime Minister Koizumi, was accompanied by a 121-member delegation, which included businessmen.

During the visit, Prime Minister Koizumi together with President Kufuor, attended a Ghana-Japan Summit meeting held at the Castle, Osu, on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries. The talks also reviewed multi-lateral situation including the reform of the United Nations (UN).

Nana Akufo-Addo described the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit as fruitful.

He said Mr Koizumi, pledged closer partnership with Ghana in pursuit of Japan’s development agenda for Africa. Mr Koizumi also gave assurance of Japan’s co-operation and support, especially in infrastructure development such as roads and railways.
