Japanese govt assists two institutions

Accra, Jan. 13, GNA – The Government of Japan has extended an amount of 125,217 dollars (about 1.1 billion cedis) under the Japanese Government Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGHSP) scheme for the construction of a girls’ hostel and a block of six classrooms in two educational institutions in the Northern Region. An agreement to that effect was signed on Tuesday between Mrs Kazuko Asai, Japan’s Ambassador to Ghana and representatives of the beneficiary schools.

Under the agreement, Hashmiya English and Arabic School in the Tamale Municipality in the Northern Region received an amount of 50,732 dollars (about 441.3 million cedis) to construct a block of six classrooms, an office, a storeroom and a KVIP place of convenience for the school.

The facility would replace the existing deplorable makeshift structure that houses the growing number of pupils in school.

T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary/Commercial School in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region received an amount of 74,485 dollars (649.5 million cedis) to construct a girl’s hostel for the school. About 200 female students of the school, who are currently being accommodated in temporary structure, would benefit from the project. Mr Ibrahim Kamil, a teacher at Hashimiya English and Arabic School, said the construction of the block would impact positively on the community and help improve the living standards of the people since education was the key to success in all endeavours.

Mr Yakub Abubakar, Headmaster of T.I. Ahmadiyya School, said when the dormitory is constructed the school authorities would be in a better position to monitor the female students to promote morality among them.
