Bibiani (W/R) Dec 14, GNA – A 29-year-old unemployed, Kwaku Okyere, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Bibiani Circuit Court for threat of death and possession of Indian hemp. He pleaded not guilty.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah that the convict and his parents live at Yebegyaho, a cottage near Sefwi Nsawora. He said for sometime now Okyere had been threatening the parents and that not even a gift of two acres of cocoa farm from the father would satisfy him.
Okyere teamed up with his younger brother, Kofi Sarpong, and chased out the caretakers of the father’s cocoa farm and this gave them the opportunity to harvest, sell and pocket the proceeds. He said in March last year Okyere pointed a gun at the father, ordered him to raise the hands and close his eyes, which he did to save his life.
The old man after the humiliation made a formal complaint to the police, who arrested. A search in his room uncovered dried leaves which later proved to be cannabis.
